Karin Cochrane

Religious Education Coordinator

As a leader, I ground my teaching in a deep belief that education is ultimately about children – their growth, their curiosity, and their emerging sense of identity. Leadership, to me, begins with relationships. I lead by creating a culture where every student feels seen, valued, and understood, and I take responsibility for knowing each child as an individual. I pay close attention to what excites them, what challenges them, what they gravitate toward, and how they express themselves. These insights guide my decisions and help me shape a classroom community where every learner feels they belong.

As part of my leadership role, I work collaboratively with colleagues to strengthen collective practice, share insights about student learning, and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement. I am part of a team committed to high‑quality teaching, and I lead by supporting others, engaging in reflective dialogue, and helping build consistent, student‑centred approaches across the school. By fostering trust and shared responsibility, I help create an environment where staff feel empowered to innovate, take risks, and grow professionally.

Statement of areas of responsibility: As the Religious Education Coordinator, I work closely with the Principal and Parish Priest to promote a strong Catholic identity by witnessing to the faith, supporting staff in their own spiritual growth, and ensuring that Catholic teachings are embedded across school life. I am a committed and practicing Catholic and I strive to share my faith through everyday interactions, modelling the Gospel values that underpin the school’s Mercy tradition. My work is grounded in a desire to support and nurture students as they grow in their relationship with Christ and develop a life‑long commitment to loving and serving others within their wider community.

Professional experience: I am a passionate and experienced educator with over 20 years of experience across all primary school grades and in a range of different roles. I hold a Master of Teaching, Graduate Certificate in Religious Education and a Graduate Diploma in Theological Studies. I have further qualifications in Gifted Education and Mathematics Expertise and Excellence.
